Sustainability
In today's times of changing climate and real concerns over origin of supply every business has to take sustainability seriously. We are no exception. We work towards protecting our planet, our suppliers and your business through 4 key areas.
Recycling & ISO14001
- Cooking oil used across our business is converted into bio fuel for our fleet of delivery vans and Area Managers cars. This has reduced our carbon footprint by 80%
- Cardboard packaging is recycled and we have reduced our waste into landfill by 80%
- Chemicals discharged into the water system have been reduced by 2%
- Much of our Grab and Go packaging is biodegradable or made from recycled paper
- We will work in tandem with you to reduce waste and with the right space will operate compost bins and wormeries
Planet
- With the savings generated from our careful use of chemicals and fuel we now subscribe to the Tree Appeal where we buy indigenous broad leaf trees. These are planted in schools local to your site and in native woodlands to encourage wildlife and natural species to develop.
- Our Target is to plant a minimum of 600 trees per year which will remove 850 tonnes of harmful CO2 from our atmosphere over the next 10 years
Product
- We purchase our produce from suppliers who conform to the Assured Food Standards Red Tractor Scheme.
- All of our fish is supplied by members of the Marine Stewardship Council which ensures the stocks are maintained and caught in a way that doesn't affect other species

- All GM products are banned
- We use Fairtrade coffee and a range of confectionery that ensures farmers are getting the right price for their crop
- Through using consolidated deliveries rather than individual local suppliers we are able to save approximately 620 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere
- Our main supplier uses telematics routing to track the carbon footprint of their vehicles
- They also use warehouses only powered by green renewable fuels and which harvest rain water used to wash their vehicles
- Bio fuel in these vehicles has saved over 3,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide in a year
Site Efficiency
- Your site will have it's own site specific plan geared towards saving the use of valuable resources and reducing your overheads
- Individuals are trained in power and water conservation and encouraged to "Switch Off" when not in use
- Reminder signs will be placed near all energy consuming devices and taps
- Clients carbon footprint is reduced significantly by Cygnet implementing simple energy management measures
